29 Chinese Sergeant Interpreters, On the 6th May, 1901 the Captain Superintendent of Police requested authority to place 3 additional Sergeant Interpreters in the 1902 Estimates. 26 Lance Sergeants. His Excellency decided that the Sergeant of Police attached to the Government House staff should be placed in the Estimates of the Police Department, causing the addition of one Lance Sergeant at $762 in those Estimates.
Teacher Allowance for Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr. Badeley has volunteered to learn the Hakka dialect, in addition to Cantonese, and has been granted a teacher's allowance for that purpose.
16 Indian Interpreters. Additional allowances for 3 Indian Interpreters are required in order that each station in the New Territory may have its Indian Interpreter.
Additional allowances are required for one European Detective Sergeant whose sole duty it is to supervise the dealers in arms, and for 12 Chinese detectives who are already employed, but for whom there are no allowances at present.
